Why Keeping a Check on Quality is Essential For Textile Industry?

What is Textile Testing?

The quality and performance of textile products go through physical and chemical methods in accordance with the relevant standards, for doing qualitative or quantitative testing and geting test report.

Performing quality tests may seem like something of an additional cost to the products an industry manufactures, using trained operatives to test products yet no meaningful results are gathered and therefore, you might consider dropping out your testers completely from the picture. Well, before you proceed with that, we have compiled a list of reasons which show why and how important is testing for a textile industry:

Raw Materials Check Up

First thing on the line of manufacturing is the raw materials. If you initial ingredients are below par, how do you expect to create an exceptional dish? Same is the case here with textile testing. If your raw materials are sent ahead for processing and manufacturing without testing them for strength and quality, then your final products have a greater chance of being sub-standard which is a great threat to your company’s reputation.

To ensure proper testing methods, set standards. Not too high and unrealistic that you are unable to find a vendor in your own budget, but rather that define and comply with your goals and you are able to deliver what you promise to your consumers.  The testing here can be set on different stages depending upon the fabric you are manufacturing. For instance, in case of a weaver, the material used for making it is raw fiber and it will be good choice to test the quality of the fiber before putting it through the spinner.

During Production

During production, it is a good call to test samples from the production line to ensure the machinery or workers are performing as per standards. From a statistical perspective, sampling can allow you to understand the overall production line standards. It does not eliminate faulty goods but reduces the chances considerably if sampling is done consistently and actions are immediately taken to overcome the causes of those faults.

If you can the problem before the goods reach the finish line, you will be able to save yourself a great deal and not fall prey to producing sub-standard or below par goods.

Research and Development

If during sampling, you encounter faulty products and goods, discarding it right away wouldn’t be a wise choice.

The most productive and effective use of testing for quality is examining products through research and development. This allows you to analyze the product, come up with ways to improve the quality cost effectively and efficiently and reduce chances of producing faulty goods.

Through R&D, you can check for improvements and upgrades in material quality overtime and keep in check whether your products are as per your set standards. Most large corporations have separate setup of R&D and spend hefty amounts to ensure they are functioning properly and deriving meaningful results.

Tester Machines And Devices

There are various quality testing machines that can be used for this purpose. And it is highly recommended to opt for devices to improve accuracy and gain meaningful results. Among such devices include Martindale Abrasion Tester. It is a fabric quality testing machine which tests resistance to abrasion of fabric via various methods. Sample pieces of manufactured fabric can be given to the machine and its rubs them together and in various motions and pressures, to check the quality of wear and tear as well as how well and for how long can the fabric resist grazes, which is actually perfect for checking fabric quality.

We hope this article helps you understand the importance of quality testing in textile industries. Happy testing!
