Description

Application

Needle Flame Tester, to determine the fire hazards of insulation and combustible materials used inside electrical and electronic products, when they are subject to components ignited, the test flame does not cause ignition, or that a combustible part ignited by the test flame has a limited duration of burning or a limited extent of burning, without spreading fire by flames or burning or glowing particles falling from the test specimen.

The Needle Flame Tester consists of a dia.0.9mm needle burner that tilts to 45 degree from the vertical and is fueled with butane gas. The fire hazard of the specimen is assessed by measuring the burning duration of the specimen, and any ignition of the wrapping tissue and white pine board below the specimen.

The Difference Between the Needle Flame Test and the Glow Wire Test

The glow wire test is designed to test the stability of electrical and electronic products at work. The needle flame tester uses a needle-shaped burner with a specified size to apply the test sample at a fixed angle of 45 °to observe whether the sample is burning and whether it is burning time to evaluate the ignition risk of the small flame caused by the fault in the equipment. The needle flame test is applicable to electrical and electronic equipment, equipment components and components, solid insulation materials or other combustible materials.

    Flame Adjustment

Place the burner perpendicular to the axis, observe it against the background in soft light, and adjust the gas supply to the flame height of 12mm±1mm. The test time of flame temperature rising from 100℃±5℃ to 700℃±3℃ should be (23.5±1.0)s.

    Sample Preparation

If possible, the test samples shall be complete equipment, components or components. Before the beginning of the test, place the sample under the conditions of temperature 15℃~35℃, and relative humidity 45%~75% at least 24H.

    Test Procedure

1 Unless otherwise specified, the samples should be placed in the most flammable position during normal use. The fixation of the test sample shall not affect the application or spread of the flame.

2 Ignite the flame as prescribed and last for a certain period of time. If the sample drops melt during the combustion, title the burner 45 degrees to prevent the material from falling into the combustion tube. When an extra point is required to be tested on the same test sample, ensure that the deterioration caused by the previous test does not affect the test to be carried out.

3 Measure and record the burning time when the test sample and the laid bottom burn. The time of combustion is from moving away from the source until the last flame is completely extinguished and no burning can be seen.

    Evaluate Test Result

The test sample was not burned and hot, and the specified floor was not burned. Or, after removing the flame, the burning time recorded does not exceed 30 seconds. The test sample is considered to have passed the needle flame test.
