A Xenon Test Chamber (Weatherometer), also named Xenon Arc Weatherometer, is a water-cooled type of xenon testing chamber. This Xenon Tester measures the light fastness and aging resistance of textiles, plastics, rubber products, or materials. Besides, the weatherometer is also called a light fastness testing machine for adopting a water-cooled long-arc-xenon lamp and racking sprays to provide both light and dark cycles and natural weather conditions. Moreover, people also name it Fadeometer as its final testing purpose is to check the color fading features.

Test Principle

Expose the specimen of the textile under specified conditions to light from a xenon arc lamp and to water spray. Meanwhile, expose the eight dyed blue wool references to light. But we also need to protect it with a sheet of window glass from water spray. Lastly, assess the light fastness by comparing the change in color of the specimen with that of the references. If the instrument is to determine the wet photosensitive textiles, no need to expose the blue wool standard. Instead, use the gray sample card to make a comparative assessment.

The test principle


The textile specimens and eight blue wool standards are sprayed and exposed to the sun in the xenon tester following the specified conditions. At the same time, cover the eight blue wool standards with glass so as to prevent spraying on the fog, and then compare the specimen with the blue wool standards for the assessment of the color fastness. If the instrument is used to determine the wet photosensitive textiles, it is not necessary to expose the blue wool standard, and instead use the gray sample card to make a comparative assessment.



Safety precautions


Note: These security measures are only for reference. They only play an auxiliary role in the testing procedure. Therefore, there is no need to follow the steps completely.


1 Do not operate the test equipment without reading and understanding the manufacturer's instructions. The operators should be responsible for following the manufacturer's instructions for safe operation.


2 The test equipment contains a light source with high brightness. So do not look directly into the light source. Close the test room door while the equipment is in operation.


3 Prior to servicing the light source, there is a thirty-minute cooling period after the lamp operation is terminated.


4 When servicing test equipment, turn off the off switch and the main power disconnect switch to ensure that the main power indicator on the machine is off when the unit is equipped.


5 It is dangerous to prolong the exposure time of the skin and eyes to fluorescent light. So do not look directly into the sun under any circumstances.



Maintenance


1 do not allow the machine to be moved during use.

2 place the instrument on a stable ground before use.

3 the machine must keep working under good ventilation.

4 clean the machine and keep it clean when the test is finished.

5 wipe the control box part with a piece of dry cloth rather than a wet cloth.

6 add lubricant to the mechanical part of the machine in time due to the large operation load.

7 choose the appropriate power supply voltage which should not be too high, to avoid burning the device.

Fault diagnosis and treatment


1 When there is a water shortage in the humidification tank, you need to check
whether the humidification tank is leaking and the connection is normal.
whether the humidifying water tank and water solenoid valve are working as usual.


2 The xenon water temperature becomes too high, you need to check
whether the tap water supply stops working.

3 Wind speed of the circulating fan becomes abnormal, you need to

open the upper right panel to check the mechanical failure of the fan.
