Fabric Drape Tester TF118
Fabric Drape Tester is designed to measure and calculate the coefficient of the drape by tracing a shadow of the draped fabric on paper. Besides, the Fabric Drape Tester complies with ISO 9073-9, GB/T 23329, etc. If you are looking for a tester to measure the co-efficiency of the fabric drape, this fabric drape machine will be your good choice as we have a long history of over 10 years.
Description
Application
Fabric Drape Tester, to measure and calculate the co-efficiency of the fabric drape using image processing technology. It can test the drape property of all kinds of fabrics, such as cotton, denim, and linen.
The fabric drape tester is equipped with a CCD imaging system capable of handling, dynamic and static images. In addition, it can count, analyze, store and output graphs and data from the test process. Moreover, the instrument can test without changing the background color when there are specimens of different colors. Besides, when testing, there are some notes. This instrument requires a customized PC. The fabric drape tester should be exposed to general light and natural light rather than direct sunlight and strong light. When testing, we should put down the instrument cover to avoid affecting the testing accuracy.
Drape Test Principle
Place the circular specimen in the circular supporting disk first. Then irradiate the sample with a parallel light perpendicular to the horizontal plane, and obtain the projection diagram of the sample. In the end, calculate the percentage of the projection area to the original area by using the image processing method.

What is a fabric drape and How to Test it?
Fabric drape is the property of fabric to sag by its own gravity and forms a smooth and evenly curved surface.
The test principle: prepare a stiff fabric with less drape, more light shading, and less light current. Conversely, the soft fabric with more drape, shade less, and have a higher photocurrent. Thus the fabric drape is indirectly reflected by the change in photocurrent.
As shown in the diagram, 1 is the specimen, 2 is the pillar, 3 and 5 are the reflectors, 4 is the light source (on the focal point of reflector 3) and 6 is the photocell (on the focal point of reflector 5).

The significance of Fabric Drape and its Definition
Fabric drape refers to the performance of fabric draping due to its own gravity. The drape of the fabric is one of the important contents of the fabric’s visual form and aesthetic comfort. Draping reflects the drape degree and drape shape of the fabric, and it is an important factor to determine the visual beauty of the fabric. And for the living and clothing fabrics, we have a high requirement for their durable wear as well as other characteristics, such as beautiful appearance, wearing comfort, etc. Therefore, the fabric is required to have a relatively good bending performance, which can be shown by the drape and flexibility performance. Only when the fabric meets with the related requirement, can the manufacturer produce them, becoming popular and competitive in the textile market. Moreover, the drape of different fabrics is quite different, such as the poor drape of Poe knit fabrics and the very good drape of curtains. In all, we should use the fabric drape testing machine to select suitable drape fabrics.
Drape Index
How to drape fabric? Drape shape, drape degree, and drape coefficient F are three common indexes of fabric drape.
Drape shape refers to the number and the size of twists in the fabric drape. The drape degree refers to the droop degree which is the free boundary of the fabric. The drape coefficient F refers to the percentage of the projected area to the original area of the drooping part of the fabric. The smaller the drape coefficient, the better the drape.
Sample Preparation
1 Humidity under the standard atmosphere.
2 Selection of sample diameter:
When the diameter of the clamping disc is 12cm, the diameter of all samples is 24 cm.
When the diameter of the clamping disc is 18cm, test the specimen with a 30cm diameter first, and calculate the drape coefficient.
If the drape coefficient is less than 30%, test the sample with a 24cm diameter, if the drape coefficient is more than 30% and less than 85%, test the sample with a 30cm diameter, if the drape coefficient is greater than 85%, test the sample with 36cm diameter.
Take at least 3 samples for each sample, and test each sample on both positive and negative sides.
What is Drape Testing?
A fabric drape tester is also called a drape testing instrument, which is used to test the drape coefficient of a material. In the drape meter test, there are several factors affecting the drape of fabric such as weight, stiffness, thickness, rigidity, etc. And the drape of different fabrics is different. So how to calculate fabric for drapes? Here are two drape coefficient formulas for your reference:
Test report:
The type of fabrics
The size of the specimen
The drapery co-efficient
The number of testing specimens
The adjustment of the specimen
The fact that the specimen does not drape under the specified conditions by applying the common method.

A: Drapability of a fabric is combined effect of several factors such as stiffness, flexural rigidity, weight, thickness etc. Stiffness, an attribute of fabric hand is one of the most important factors determining draping quality of fabric e.g. soft fabric drapes closer to the body forming ripples whereas stiff fabric drapes away from the body. Stiffness of fabric itself depends upon geometrical parameters of the fabric.
Q: What is drape coefficient of textile fabrics?
A: Drape coefficient is the traditional parameter used to express the drapeability of fabrics and defined as the percentage of a paper ring (used to project/cast on the shadow of the draped sample) covered by the vertically projected shadow of the partially centrally supported circular sample on a circular disc with smaller diameter.
