Crimp Tester TF125
Crimp Tester, Wire Pull Tester, or Crimp Tester Machine, is used to calculate the crimp in yarn affected by knitting or weaving by taking apart the yarn from a piece of given-length fabric, unbending it under given force and measuring its length, to determine the actual yarn usage.
Description
Application of Crimp Tester TF125
Crimp Tester TF125 TESTEX consists of a test mainframe, tension value collector, specimen elongation measurement component, and display operation screen.
This wire crimp pull tester can be used to test the elongation tension and elongation length of yarns, and thus measure the weaving shrinkage of yarns.
Elongation Tension: The minimum force applied to a yarn to eliminate the crimp of the yarn.
Elongation length: The yarn elongation length is measured and recorded when the ends of the yarn are stretched apart to a selected tension.
Weave shrinkage: Assume that the yarn has an elongated length a, In the actual fabric, the distance between the ends of the yarn is b, and The difference between the two (a – b) = c, Then the weaving shrinkage = c/a
Note: This method is suitable for most woven fabrics. It is important to note that this method is not applicable if the yarn crimp is still not completely eliminated at a certain straightening tension. In addition, this method is not applicable to fabrics where yarn damage occurs during weaving, and finishing.
TESTEX is a yarn machine manufacturer with more than 10 years, we provide a series of textile testing solutions.
Test Principle of Crimp Tester TF125
Remove the yarn from a fabric of known length and select a suitable tension size according to the type of yarn and the thread density. Straighten the yarn by means of a yarn crimp tester, measure the length after straightening, and then express the test result in terms of percentage crimp.
Table – the straightening tension of common yarns
Yarn | Linear density – tex | Straightening tension – cN |
Cotton spun | ≤7 tex | 0.75 * tex value |
≥7 tex | 0.2 * tex value + 4 | |
Woollen and worsted spun | 15 tex ~ 60 tex | 0.2 * tex value + 4 |
61 tex ~ 300 tex | 0.07 * tex value + 12 | |
Man-made continuous filament non-textured | all | 0.5 * tex value |
Note: Other yarns may refer to the tension values in the table, or be chosen separately, but need to be indicated in the report.

More information: What is Crimp in Textiles?
Due to the interlacing of warp and weft yarns, corrugations are formed between the warp and weft yarns in the fabric. These ripples are called crimps.
This means that the surface length of the yarn in a fabric is actually less than its length when straightened due to the crimp. In order to calculate the yarn requirement for a certain fabric, textile manufacturers need to know the crimp of the yarn. The crimp of a woven fabric depends on the fabric structure – such as yarn density and yarn thickness.
Crimp has an impact on fabric properties, especially the percentage of the crimp of warp and weft yarns, and they affect fabric abrasion resistance, shrinkage, and fabric cost.
A wire pull tester is used to test the crimp percentage of yarn. Crimping pull test standards should be considered when you choose the Crimp Pull Tester.
TESTEX is a professional crimp tester manufacturer, we have sold our motorized wire crimp pull tester to 42 countries.

Definition of Yarn Crimp
The percentage of the difference between the straightening length and the curling length as a percentage of the straightening length under the specified load after the yarn has been curled, which is called the crimping degree of the yarn, also known as the yarn shrinkage rate. It reflects the degree to which the crimp structure of the yarn is restored when it is straightened.
In the process of processing, the fiber forms a certain crimp form, but under certain conditions, such a form will be recovered, which is the origin of crimp shrinkage. The winding degree of yarn is one of the main factors of fabric structure, and its crimp degree has great influence on the amount of yarn, the appearance of fabric and the physical and mechanical properties.
Structural Characteristics of the Yarn Crimp Instrument
The yarn crimp measuring instrument includes a long strip base and a scale fixed on the base. The base is equipped with a pretension setting device and a length measuring device.
The pre-tension setting device includes a balanced head, which is fixed on the vertical plate on a base. A balance pointer on the balance head, a balance rod one end of which is connected to the balance head, and a balance weight that can be moved horizontally on the balance bar. At the end of the base, a positioning nut to position the balance rod and the weight scale fixed to the base.
The length measuring device is located on the surface of the base and comprises two clamps, one of which is mounted on the balance head and the other one is mounted on a sliding that can be moved horizontally on the scale.
The instrument is also equipped with a calibration device, a large and small balance head and a corresponding two-step measuring range, which can measure the yarn crimp accurately and quickly.
As a professional supplier of textile instruments, we are committed to continually improve the user experience, TESTEX Textile Testing Equipment is a reliable choice for testing textile quality.
